DAY 01: ARRIVE KATHMANDU
On arrival in Kathmandu (1334m), you will be met by Earth Tours & Travel representative and will be transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 02: KATHMANDU - sightseeing tour
Kathmandu City, Although the fertile Kathmandu valley has been inhabited for thousands of years, its rich and varied cultural legacy essentially began during the 14th century under the Malla Dynasty. Patronized by the nobility, Newar artisans constructed temples, monasteries and elaborate courtyards that constitute a fascinating architectural history. Visit Durbur square and Teleju temple with its gilded roofs; the present temple was restored by King Mahendra Malla in 1562. The gate at the hanuman Dhoka Durbur, the old Royal Palace, is guarded by a statue of covered by a thick layer of sindur, a red dust mixed with mustard oil. Stop at the House of Living Goddess where the virgin goddess known as Kumari may look sown from one of the upper floor windows. Kathmandu derives its name from 12th century wood temple of Kasthamandap, said to have been built from a single tree. Walk through the bazaar and labyrinthine back streets of the old city.

Visit Swayambhunath, the “Monkey temple” the oldest shrine in the world established more than 2500 years ago. Situated on top of a high hill where legendary Manjushri discovered the lotus growing in the ancient Kathmandu valley lake, Swayambhunath commands a superb view of the valley below. The four side of this ancient structure are painted with the compassionate eyes of Buddha. Between the eyes is a mystical third eye symbolizing true wisdom. The nose appearing as an incomplete question mark is the Nepalese number of one, a symbol of unity.

Visit Pashupatinath Temple the most sacred of all Hindu temples in Nepal situated on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Non Hindus are not allowed to enter the temple precincts but may look into premises from the opposite bank. It draws tens of thousands of pilgrims and devotees from Nepal and India during the festival of Mahashivratri (the night of Lord Shiva)

DAY 03: BHUMDI (1525M)
Transfer to the airport for early morning to Pokhara. Met by our Sherpa team and start trekking around midday with a 20 minutes drive from Pokhara along the Tansen road to the start point at Thare Khola (stream). The route climbs away up the west bank before traversing left through the Chettii/Buhun village of Kalibang. On up through mixed farming country of Bhumdi (1525m). The ridgeline offers fine views north to Machapuchare and the annapurnas and east to the Manaslu Himal. We camp near Bhumdi.

DAY 04: PANCHASE LEKH (2508M)
Persist the panoramic views from this ridge in many ways better than those obtained from the areas nearer the mountains, offering an amazing wide vista. The trail leads on up the ridge, then leaving the scattered dwellings behind climbs through mixed vegetation before entering thick deciduous forest full of bird life and tree orchids. In spring on can see abundant flowers including rhododendron and white aphelia. The route lies through shady north facing slopes and is moist and dark resulting in prolific plant growth. The trail treverses west towards Panchase Lekh before climbing up to the ridgeline where there is a chautara (resting place). Shortly after this, open ground is reached on the south facing slopes and a fine lunch spot is already built in the form of a ‘Roma Fort’ on deserted farming terraces. Half an hour ‘jungle bashing’ leads to distinctive ‘bhanjynag’ (ridge crossing point). Climb away west to the ‘president’s camp’ set high on the hills immediately below Panchase Lekh.

DAY 05: CHANDRAKAT
Through panchase Bhanjyang where there are a couple of huts then climb up onto the north ridge of Panchase Lekh and follow this down through forest to Bhadaure village where the main trail to Lumle and Kare is met. Lunch through sparse forest and then an hour gradual walk pasing through agricultural farm to Chandrakot village overlooking the Moda Khola.

DAY 06: MODI KHOLA (1646M)
Leave the main trail and turn north up the line of the Modi Khola River losing altitude through mixed farming land and forest. A very picturesque Gurung farming village of ‘Landrung’ situated on the east bank high above the river. From here good views of annapurnas south (7219m) can be seen.

To the north also lies Hiunchuli (6441m) connected by the razor sharp ridge, which leads across to the peak of annapurnas south. The trail to the famous annapurnas sanctuary lies between the guardian mountain of Hiunchuli and Machapuchare.

DAY 07: AUSTRIAN CAMP (1433M)
The trail climbs quite rapidly to the village of Landrung at 1610m after which there is generally pleasant trekking through farmland with odd scattered houses and occasional school. After lunch there a longish climb through rhododendron before cresting the ridge and continuing to a clearing in the forest. This beautiful campsite before Dhampus is the Austrian camp. Superb views of the Annapurna range and Machapuchare.

DAY 08: POKHARA (913M)
The return is either to go down the ridge of Dhampus which leads to a steep decent to the Yamdi Khola valley and then to Pokhara via Hyanja. The other route back from Austrian camp is south to the Kaski ridge via naudanda and sarankot. As alternative to the main trail down from Sarankot there is a poor trail leading to the banks of the Phewa Tal (lake) down the south of the hill. The lake sidewalk makes a pleasant way of finishing off this fine trek. Overnight at Shagrila village resort.

DAY 09: DAMAULI
Leave Pokhara early in the morning and drive to Damauli, the river put-in-point. After the rafts are rigged, we set off down the seti Khola. The whole day is spent within its forested canyon. The luxuriant vegetation we see is the remnant of the vast forests which once covered the middle hills of Nepal.

Traveling by raft is a perfect way to view undisturbed wildlife. At lunch break there is time to explore, bird watch, photograph, swim or relax. Later in the afternoon a small but technical rapid is encountered near the village of saranghat. The rapids are rated one to ten a scale developed on the Colorado River, with one being the easiest and ten the most difficult. We camp on the spacious beach below Saranghat. Saranghat is colorful middle hills village inhabited by Magars who are renowned for generations of service with the Gurkha forces.

DAY 10: CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK
In the city, one day may seem like another but not so in the river. On the second day, after breaking camp, we leave the Seti Khola and enter the Trisuli River. Here the middle hills recede and the Terai plains open before us. The topography changes dramatically. The twisted rock formations give way to sandstone and the gravel deposited by the Antedecent Rivers. We are also among different ethnic groups. The tribes of the Terai are more distinctly Indian in appearance.

After lunch we have the opportunity to visit a unique religious shrine, Devghat. To Hindus, this community is well known. Each year thousands of pilgrims visit the ashram to worship. With its meditation schools, guesthouses and gardens, devghat is a self-contained retreat.

Below the ashram we enter our third river, the Narayani end raft and drive to Chitwan National park. Upon arrival at the lodge, refreshments will be served and you will be briefed by the resident Guest Relations officer regarding the park, the wildlife programmes available and facilities of the lodge. Overnight at Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge.

DAY 11: CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK
Activities in the park include wildlife viewing from elephant back, jungle walks, bird-watching land rover drives, river safaris, elephant camp visits, wildlife viewing and photographing from machans (blinds). Every evening a slide show explains more fully about the flora and fauna of the national park. All wildlife activities are escorted by experienced naturalists.

Wildlife in chitwan includes the greater one-horned rhinoceros, spotted deer, hog deer, sambar deer and barking deer as well as a wide variety of birdlife. With a bit of luck, there is always a chance of glimpsing the leopard, sloth bear and Royal Bengal tiger. Overnight at Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge.

DAY 12: KATHMANDU
After breakfast and early morning activities, you will be transferred to the airport for return flight to Kathmandu. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. In the evening there will be a farewell Nepali dinner with cultural dance performance. Overnight at Summit hotel

    DAY 13: FINAL DEPARTURE
